The Ross County Sheriff’s Office operates Ross County Jail and is the appropriate official contact for current jail information and jail-record questions. Administrative office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding federally observed holidays. The Sheriff’s public-records policy also lists weekday in-person request hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding government holidays.

Use the channel that matches the record sought. A current adult custody search is different from a request for a past booking file, and a court docket reports a different stage of a case.
- For a current adult custody check or the official adult photo-capable interface, use the Sheriff’s Public Portal or Miami Valley Jails. Both are current-custody tools, not historical arrest archives.
- For a booking record or a photo not displayed online, follow the Sheriff’s public-records policy and use the jail/records line. The policy sets five cents for a standard one-sided black-and-white page and actual cost for photos or other copies.
- For a Chillicothe-controlled incident report, contact the Chillicothe Police Department Records Department. CPD says adult prisoners are housed through the Sheriff, so it is not the jail-booking custodian.
- For a local court case or disposition, use the Chillicothe Municipal Court record search for its scope or Ross County Clerk eAccess for Common Pleas matters.
- For a person sentenced to Ohio state custody, use the ODRC Offender Search. It is not a Ross County booking lookup.
